Yah, I've been off the radar for a while...
To start with, the conditions at my workplace have been getting worse and worse. My once sweet boss lady has gone nearly insane with all the stress she puts on herself.
She has been telling all of us how bad we are at our jobs, how incapable and stupid we are, and has even been telling us we lie when things aren't what she wants them to be. As there are about 6 full time people managing about 20 temps there right now, we are supposed to be the more responsible and valued employees, since we take on training, supervising, and managing temps, right?
Nope.
Boss lady, who asks us to maintain quality, as well as train/supervise these people, has been telling the new people not to listen to us (one at a time, instance by instance).
Instance: Boss tells me to do job with scale, not counting parts. I tell my temps. Temps proceed to not listen to me, repeatedly. I /caught/ one of them telling the other to count them out for her when she thought I wasn't listening.
This is when boss lady said she should be called in, so I did. Boss lady comes over, tells them how to do it, and asks if I told them to do it this way. They say I did /not/ tell them this (of course not! they going to admit not listening to me?), so my boss calls me a liar, and then again in a meeting the next day, brings it up in front of everyone and calls me a liar again.
Instance: In another meeting with just the full time people, boss is talking about how we all need to be trained on everything, so we can train all these new people. I mention that I have not been trained on many of the jobs, I don't even know the first thing about them. Boss responds with telling me that I'm too slow to use the machines, and am too slow to manage doing more than one thing at once, the same thing she always says when I ask to be trained. (in front of everyone, whom all know that I'm actually really fast. I did 5000 the first day they put me on once machine, while the normal average for people who have done it for years is about 3500. And I wasn't even trying. I've only been put on it once since then, when they really needed people, and never again.)
Next day, I'm put on the fastest machine, either because my boss wanted to show me how slow I am, or someone actually reminded her that I've broken records. Before the job starts, that bitchy crazy lady asked, right in front of me, for another person on the job, because I wouldn't be able to keep up.
I then proceed to run the machine *completely by myself* something only 2 other people can do. Bitchy crazy lady was taken off of it in the first hour : )
Also never put on it again.
Instance: I asked someone to train a new girl on the electric jack. As he starts, I notice he didn't mention the toe caps that we have to wear when we run it. I remind him, and he says no one had told /him/! He's been working there for three months, and I realize he just doesn't want to wear them, so I turn to the new girl and say, 'Well, as long as /you/ know to wear them, okay?'. Next day, again, in a meeting, my passive aggresive boss says,
"*And* I don't want to hear any of this stuff, like Erin saying that as long as you know you should wear toe caps, you don't have to! You don't get to make rules up here!"
Huh?!! And then, the day after! A safety meeting is brought up, and the safety manager says, 'Now, even if people tell you that you don't have to wear them, you still do!'
So she told the *manager* something that she had already overheard and twisted so far out of context it was obscene!
Everyday occurances: Asking me 4 times in one day if I had been mean to the new girls, and asking them repeatedly too. Instructing me to go to a table and speed things up, then that I am way too aggresive. Telling me that I'm far too slow, and far too passive. Telling me to stop being stupid, asking stupid questions, or to actually think for once. Letting me know that any other place would have fired me long ago. Telling me I'm not capable every time I've asked to do anything (after she asked for volunteers!) except of course, for cleaning the bathrooms.
Now this does make it sound personal, but it's not. She does this to all the full time people. I just happen to have a dozen examples, just like everyone else. So she's nuts, right? One girl who had worked there for two years left this week, tired of the abuse. She gave notice till friday, but just stopped coming in on wednesday.
I had worked with her the last day she came in, so when she didn't show up the next day, boss lady asked me if the girl had said anything about just ditching us. When I started to reply that she had talked about her new job, and was wanting friday off - boss inturrupted me by saying that she could tell by my face that I was lying. The girl had talked about ditching work, I was obviously lying. And she walked off.
Well, now that was getting to the last straws of disgruntlement. Something I had wanted to do for a long time was to transfer to production, work with the big machines. I had felt wierd about asking, but I didn't know why... lotsa people transfer back and forth all the time. So I asked the production supervisor if they had a position open, and he said he could try me out; but to ask my boss first so she knows about it.
I find her half an hour later and finally get to ask her - but of course she already heard that I had gone behind her back and asked him first. She was royally pissed about me not following the 'chain of command' (even though I know the production supervisor - I eat lunch with them when it's cold out).
But my 'wierd feeling' was justified - because she informed me it was up to him to take me, and if I didn't work out there, I was gone, finished, fired. I think my gut was telling me that if I had just asked her first, she might have outright fired me then and there.
Because I have a bad attitude, and obviously don't want to work there (true that! but I've never been lax on the job, lazy, or so much as complained about a damn thing), and some other stuff that I think was more things she was mad at me for but has *never approached me about*, so I didn't even know what she was talking about. She informed me that I wanted to leave for these reasons, because thats what she *does*! She makes up her mind about how everything is and can't hear a thing that contradicts what she has decided is the case!
HOWEVER
Production decided to take me, even with everything she's been telling them!
I get a dollar raise!!!!
I keep my benefits!
Now I just have to enter a world of only men... decidedly crude men (but I do know many of them, they're fun and treat me little sister like)... and do a damn good job with the minimum of aid.
So it all has a happy ending..... just not for the girls stuck there still. With each person that leaves, it makes it harder on them, since they are the only ones who can do certain things while training new people, and having this *woman* as a boss.
There's my update ; )

Glad to see you're going to be working under somebody else now. Yay for SANE PEOPLE!
Also, 80s night fun times await, if you're so inclined. I'm off Thurs/Fridays this month, so I'd like to go once before the students get back.
